Recurring Issues

Common problems reported by multiple verified buyers

Pellet Smoke Duration

52 mentions

The 3oz pellet hopper provides approximately 90 minutes of smoke. For longer smokes (brisket, pork shoulder), users need to monitor and refill, which partially defeats the convenience angle.

Sear Quality vs Charcoal

44 mentions

Despite reaching 700°F, the grill surface doesn't replicate the intense, rapid sear from real charcoal or high-BTU gas. Steaks have good grill marks but lack the charcoal char complexity.

Proprietary Pellet Lock-In

31 mentions

Ninja Woodfire Pellets are required for the smoke function. Standard pellet grill pellets are not compatible. The pellets are only available online or at select retailers, and cost more per oz than competing pellet smoker pellets.

Finally got my apartment complex to stop complaining about my BBQ

Pros

  • +Real smoke flavor without managing fire
  • +Electric makes it apartment-approved
  • +Air fry function excellent

Cons

  • -Pellets need refilling on long cooks
  • -Charcoal sear junkies will miss that char

I live in an apartment and had been warned repeatedly about using a charcoal grill. The Ninja Woodfire is electric, so it's allowed on my balcony. The smoke flavor from the pellets is genuinely impressive — my pulled chicken and salmon taste authentically smoked. It doesn't equal 12 hours on a smoker, but for balcony cooking it's remarkable. The air fry function is just as good as my indoor air fryer. I've had neighbors ask what I'm cooking because it smells so good. Love this thing.

Good for casual BBQ, not a charcoal replacement

Pros

  • +Convenient electric operation
  • +Smoke is a nice touch
  • +Easy to clean vs charcoal

Cons

  • -Nowhere near charcoal quality for steaks
  • -Pellets are expensive and limited
  • -Smoke intensity underwhelming

I've been grilling on charcoal for 20 years, so take my perspective with that in mind. The Ninja Woodfire is a perfectly good electric grill. The smoke flavor from the pellets is pleasant, a definite step above plain electric. But if you're expecting charcoal quality, you'll be disappointed. My steaks don't have that deep char-smoke flavor I can only get from hardwood charcoal. That said, for a midweek chicken dinner without the hassle of lighting charcoal, it's genuinely convenient. Know what it is.

The versatility is unbeatable for tailgating

Declared
By Kyle and Brit M.Owned 4 monthsbeginner user2026-01-12

Pros

  • +Can grill, smoke, and air fry at same event
  • +Portable with carrying case
  • +Easy to set up anywhere

Cons

  • -Heavy at 30 lbs
  • -Need to bring pellets everywhere

We take this to every tailgate now. Having a grill, smoker, and air fryer in one unit that runs off a standard outlet is genuinely game-changing for outdoor events. We can smoke chicken wings for 90 minutes, then air fry them to crisp the skin, then grill burgers — all from the same appliance. The smoke flavor makes everything taste like it came from a full backyard BBQ setup. It's heavy to carry but comes in a bag that makes it manageable.
