Recurring Issues

Common problems reported by multiple verified buyers

Hot Exterior During Use

57 mentions

The top and sides of the oven reach temperatures that can cause burns on contact. Multiple reviewers warn this is a safety concern with children and note it must not touch under-cabinet surfaces without adequate clearance.

Interior Cleaning Complexity

43 mentions

Unlike basket-style air fryers, the Smart Oven's interior requires wiping down walls and the heating elements area. Grease splatters more inside an oven-style unit. Reviewers recommend the non-stick interior spray and crumb tray liner.

Steam Vent Placement

21 mentions

The rear steam vent must have 4+ inches of clearance from walls. Some users find placement difficult in corner kitchen setups.

Replaced my toaster oven, air fryer, and dehydrator with one appliance

Pros

  • +Replaced 3 appliances
  • +Crispy results are excellent
  • +Large enough for family meals

Cons

  • -Takes up a lot of counter space
  • -Exterior gets very hot

I had a dedicated air fryer, a toaster oven, and a food dehydrator taking up my entire counter. This one appliance replaced all three and does each job as well or better than the individual units. The air fry function makes the crispiest fries and chicken wings I've made at home. The dehydrator mode is perfect for beef jerky and fruit leather. Yes it's big, but it's one big thing instead of three medium things. After a year, zero issues.

Outstanding but please respect the clearance requirements

Pros

  • +Element IQ makes a real difference
  • +13 functions all work well
  • +Pizza mode is excellent

Cons

  • -Top gets hot enough to discolor wooden cabinets
  • -Heavy at 28 lbs
  • -Cleaning is more work than basket fryers

The cooking performance on this is genuinely excellent — I've tested all 13 modes and every single one works as described. The pizza mode is my personal favorite; it rivals our local pizza shop for thin-crust pies. The reason for 4 stars: the exterior heat is no joke. I didn't give it enough cabinet clearance initially and noticed discoloration on my cabinet bottom. Don't make my mistake — this needs 4-5 inches above and on all sides. Once I repositioned it, no further issues.

Great oven, but the cleaning is more work than I expected

Pros

  • +Makes amazing air fried food
  • +Easy to use controls
  • +Good size for 2-person household

Cons

  • -Interior cleaning is a chore
  • -Instructions unclear on cleaning frequency

The food this makes is fantastic — seriously the best air-fried chicken I've ever had at home. But nobody warned me about the cleaning. After air frying chicken thighs, there's grease on the walls, the heating element area, the drip tray, the rack. It took me 20 minutes to clean it properly the first time. I've gotten faster and smarter about it (parchment paper liner helps a lot), but if you're used to just pulling out and washing a basket, the transition requires adjustment.
