Recurring Issues

Common problems reported by multiple verified buyers

Wobble at Standing Height

87 mentions

The BEKANT's single-leg column design causes noticeable wobble, especially lateral movement, at standing height. This is the most commonly cited issue and affects typing comfort significantly.

No Memory Presets

73 mentions

Without programmable presets, users must manually adjust height each time and can never return to an exact position. This friction reduces how often people switch between sitting and standing.

Slow Motor

44 mentions

Full height travel takes approximately 20-25 seconds. While not a dealbreaker, users accustomed to faster motors on competing desks find it annoying in daily use.

Good entry point, outgrew it within a year

By James O.Owned 1 yearintermediate user2025-08-28

Pros

  • +Got me into the standing habit
  • +IKEA warranty is reassuring
  • +Easy to find replacement parts

Cons

  • -Wobble drove me crazy
  • -No presets means I stopped adjusting it
  • -Slow motor

The BEKANT was my first standing desk and it served its purpose: it got me into the habit of alternating between sitting and standing. But after a year, I upgraded to a Branch desk because the BEKANT's wobble was too frustrating. I also found that without presets, I stopped adjusting it as often because it was annoying to manually find my standing height every time. For the price, it's acceptable. But save up and get something with presets if you can.

Perfect starter desk for students

Declared
By Emily H.Owned 10 monthsbeginner user2025-11-18

Pros

  • +Price is accessible for students
  • +Looks clean and minimal
  • +Easy assembly

Cons

  • -Wobbles a bit at full height
  • -Slow to adjust

I'm a grad student and couldn't justify spending $700 on a standing desk. The BEKANT was $430 and has worked perfectly for 10 months of thesis writing. Yes, it wobbles a bit when I type standing, but I use a light laptop so it's not catastrophic. The desk looks clean and minimal — perfect for a small apartment. The 10-year warranty means I feel confident it'll outlast my degree. A great buy for the price-conscious.

Motor failed after 14 months — IKEA honored warranty

Verified
By Patricia N.Owned 14 monthsintermediate user2026-02-25

Pros

  • +Warranty replacement was painless
  • +IKEA service was responsive
  • +Desk works fine after replacement

Cons

  • -Motor shouldn't fail that early
  • -Had to go to store for warranty claim
  • -Wobble is a persistent design flaw

My BEKANT motor failed at 14 months — it would only move up, not down. I went to IKEA with my receipt and they replaced the entire desk with no argument, citing the 10-year warranty. The replacement desk has been fine for four months. So the warranty works as advertised. But a motor failure at 14 months is not acceptable hardware quality. The wobble is also a real issue that never improved. It's okay for the price but the reliability concerns me long-term.
