Recurring Issues

Common problems reported by multiple verified buyers

Heat During Gaming

62 mentions

The ultra-thin chassis means heat has nowhere to go. Keyboard surface temperatures reach 45-50C during gaming, making it uncomfortable without an external keyboard.

Soldered RAM

44 mentions

RAM is soldered to the motherboard. Users who buy the 16GB version cannot upgrade later, which limits the laptop's longevity for gaming.

The do-it-all laptop that actually does it all

Pros

  • +OLED display is gaming heaven
  • +Looks professional in meetings
  • +Performance rivals thicker gaming laptops

Cons

  • -Gets hot during long gaming sessions
  • -Battery dies fast when gaming

I used to carry two laptops — a ThinkPad for work and a chunky gaming laptop for home. The Zephyrus G16 replaced both. At work, it sits in a docking station looking like any other professional laptop. At home, it runs Baldur's Gate 3 at high settings at 80+ FPS on that gorgeous OLED panel. The 240Hz is noticeable in competitive shooters. It gets warm during extended gaming but nothing extreme with the fans on Performance mode. This is the first laptop that truly eliminates the need for two machines.

Should have gotten the 32GB version

Pros

  • +Thin and light for a gaming laptop
  • +Display is stunning
  • +Fan control modes are well-tuned

Cons

  • -16GB RAM is already not enough
  • -Can't upgrade RAM — it's soldered
  • -Keyboard gets too hot to touch during gaming

The laptop itself is great but I made the mistake of getting the 16GB model to save $200. Seven months later, I'm already hitting the RAM ceiling with Chrome, Discord, and a game running simultaneously. Since it's soldered, my only option is to sell and rebuy the 32GB version. Expensive lesson. The keyboard heat during gaming is also bad — I use an external keyboard now. If you're buying this, get 32GB and budget for an external keyboard. The laptop underneath those issues is genuinely excellent.

Best display on any gaming laptop, period

Pros

  • +240Hz OLED is incredible for gaming
  • +Colors are so vivid it's almost overwhelming
  • +HDR gaming on this display is next-level

Cons

  • -Battery only lasts 6 hours for productivity

I bought this specifically for the display and it exceeded expectations. The 240Hz OLED at 2560x1600 is the best screen I've seen on any gaming laptop. HDR games like Alan Wake 2 look absolutely stunning — the perfect blacks and vivid colors create an immersion that no IPS panel can match. For competitive gaming, the 240Hz is buttery smooth with no ghosting. Coming from a 144Hz IPS gaming monitor, this OLED is a generation leap. Worth every penny for display enthusiasts.
