Recurring Issues

Common problems reported by multiple verified buyers

Siri Smart Home Limitations

71 mentions

Siri handles basic HomeKit commands well but struggles with complex multi-step automations and frequently fails on third-party device commands that Alexa handles effortlessly.

Spotify and Third-Party Music

56 mentions

Spotify users cannot stream natively to HomePod — they must use AirPlay from their iPhone, which adds a dependency on having the phone nearby and can introduce occasional dropouts.

White Ring on Wooden Furniture

38 mentions

The silicone base can leave marks on wood and lacquered furniture surfaces over time. Apple suggests a coaster. Some users have reported permanent marks on expensive furniture.

Sounds incredible — Siri holds it back

Verified
By Emma G.Owned 7 monthsintermediate user2025-11-09

Pros

  • +Audio quality is genuinely exceptional for a smart speaker
  • +Spatial audio in movies is impressive
  • +Temperature sensor is a useful bonus

Cons

  • -Siri fails on things Alexa handles instantly
  • -Spotify AirPlay dependency is annoying

The sound coming from this speaker is remarkable. The room-sensing spatial audio actually works — I moved it between rooms and it recalibrated, and the sound difference in each space was audible. For Apple Music, it's the best wireless listening experience I've had at home. But Siri continues to frustrate. I asked Alexa and Google Home to control my Nest thermostat for years without issues. Siri struggles with the same commands regularly. If you're all-in on Apple Music and HomeKit, this is magical. If you rely on Spotify or want robust smart home control, look elsewhere.

Best sounding smart speaker period — but it's not for everyone

Verified
By Lucas B.Owned 9 monthsexpert user2026-01-03

Pros

  • +Stereo pair with two HomePods rivals dedicated speakers costing much more
  • +Dynamic room adaptation is genuinely impressive technology
  • +Apple TV integration is seamless

Cons

  • -Non-Apple ecosystem users will struggle
  • -Siri voice assistant is objectively less capable than competition

I have a stereo pair of HomePod 2s connected to my Apple TV 4K and the result is a home theater experience that sounds better than most budget soundbars costing more. For music, the low-end extension and stereo imaging of two HomePods is extraordinary for the price. The room adaptation technology recalibrates every time I move them. I'm entirely in the Apple ecosystem — iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple TV, HomeKit — and in that context these speakers are phenomenal. If you're not in Apple's world, don't buy them. But if you are, they're the best thing Apple makes at this price.

Left a ring on my oak table — warning to furniture owners

Verified
By Pieter V.Owned 2 monthsbeginner user2025-12-07

Pros

  • +Sounds beautiful
  • +Easy iPhone setup
  • +Compact for the sound output

Cons

  • -Left a permanent white ring on my oak side table
  • -Siri keeps mishearing me in my accented English

The sound quality is excellent and I loved it for the first few weeks. Then I noticed a white ring on my solid oak side table where the silicone base sits. After research I found this is a known issue Apple acknowledges. The ring hasn't come off despite my attempts to remove it. Apple's advice is to use a non-scratch mat under it. I wish this had been more prominently disclosed before purchase. The speaker itself is lovely but now I'm paranoid about where I place it. Also, Siri frequently mishears my South African accent which limits the smart home utility.
