Recurring Issues

Common problems reported by multiple verified buyers

App Instability on Android

28 mentions

A subset of Android users report the Narwal app crashing or losing connection. iOS users report fewer issues. The app has been improving with updates but remains behind Roborock in polish.

Station Footprint

22 mentions

The Freo X Ultra's base station is among the largest in the category. Multiple reviewers note it's challenging to place in smaller homes or apartments.

The triangular mop pads are proprietary and wear faster than expected with daily heavy-duty use. Replacement packs cost more than generic alternatives from Roborock.

DirtSense is not marketing fluff — it genuinely works

Verified
By Kevin L.Owned 3 monthsexpert user2025-11-22

Pros

  • +DirtSense makes floors noticeably cleaner
  • +Mop pads stay fresh with hot-air drying
  • +Strong 8200Pa suction

Cons

  • -App is behind Roborock's polish
  • -Station is massive

I tested the Freo X Ultra alongside the Roborock S8 MaxV and the Ecovacs X2. In pure mopping quality, Narwal wins convincingly. DirtSense is the real deal — I watched it slow down and make three extra passes over a dried coffee spill in my kitchen that the other robots just smeared. The hot-air drying for the mop pads is also excellent; after 3 months, zero mildew odor. The app is functional but rougher around the edges. Worth the tradeoff for the cleaning quality.

Best mop robot I've tried, app needs work

Verified
By Sophia R.Owned 5 monthsintermediate user2026-01-05

Pros

  • +Exceptional mopping for a robot
  • +No more stinky mop pads
  • +Reliable obstacle avoidance

Cons

  • -Android app crashes occasionally
  • -Station needs dedicated space
  • -Replacement pads pricey

Five months in and my kitchen floors have never been cleaner without me doing anything. The DirtSense technology really does make a difference on my tile. I was skeptical it was marketing, but watching it re-clean sections is pretty convincing. The app on my Android phone has crashed on me about 4-5 times, which is annoying. Each time I just reopened it and everything was fine, but it's not as polished as the Roborock app. Still, for the mopping performance, I'd buy this again.

Great product, but the station is enormous

Declared
By Maria C.Owned 2 monthsbeginner user2026-02-18

Pros

  • +Excellent cleaning results
  • +Self-cleaning and drying is fantastic
  • +Easy to set up

Cons

  • -Station takes up huge amount of floor space
  • -Requires dedicated corner

The robot itself and the cleaning performance are wonderful. My floors look genuinely clean, not just swept. The fresh mop pads after every session are a huge quality of life improvement. My main issue is purely practical: the base station is enormous. I live in a medium-sized condo and I had to rearrange a closet just to find a place for it near a power outlet. If you have a large home with space near your cleaning area, you won't care. For smaller spaces, measure twice before buying.
