Recurring Issues

Common problems reported by multiple verified buyers

Keyboard Sold Separately

82 mentions

The Surface Pro Type Cover keyboard costs $149-$279 separately and is essential for using it as a laptop replacement. Many buyers are surprised by this additional cost.

Real-World Battery Life

67 mentions

Microsoft claims 10 hours but real-world mixed use typically yields 6-8 hours, significantly behind ARM tablets like iPad Pro. A full workday often requires carrying a charger.

Fan Noise Under Load

44 mentions

When running demanding applications or multiple browser tabs, the Intel Core Ultra fans spin up noticeably. Not loud enough to be disruptive but noticeable in quiet rooms.

The only tablet that runs real Windows — worth it for my job

Verified
By Mike D.Owned 5 monthsexpert user2025-11-07

Pros

  • +Full Windows means zero compromises for work software
  • +OLED screen option is gorgeous
  • +Kickstand is endlessly adjustable

Cons

  • -Battery barely lasts a full workday
  • -Keyboard price is obscene for an accessory

I work in enterprise IT and need Windows for everything — Active Directory tools, legacy software, VPN clients with specific drivers. The iPad and Android tablets simply cannot do what I need. The Surface Pro 10 is the only device that fits in my bag and runs everything without compromise. The new OLED display is genuinely beautiful for a business device. My frustrations are the keyboard pricing (I paid $250 for a keyboard to use with a $1,200 tablet, which is insane) and battery life — I carry a USB-C battery pack every day. But for pure Windows compatibility in tablet form, nothing competes.

Not bad, but iPad would have been smarter for my needs

Verified
By Hannah M.Owned 3 monthsintermediate user2025-12-28

Pros

  • +Windows gives more flexibility for software choice
  • +Screen quality is good
  • +Build feels premium

Cons

  • -Battery life is genuinely disappointing
  • -Total cost with accessories is too high
  • -Fan noise is present under any load

I bought this thinking it would be the best of both worlds — tablet portability plus laptop power. The problem is it's not quite excellent at either. Battery life of 6-7 hours in real use means I always need a charger, which defeats the tablet portability argument. The iPad Pro gets 10 real-world hours and never needs a fan. And now that most apps I use have good iPad versions, I'm not sure I needed full Windows. I'd buy the iPad Pro if I could do it again — it's more expensive but actually works all day without plugging in.

Perfect hospital bedside documentation device

Verified
By Dr. Patricia K.Owned 4 monthsintermediate user2026-01-16

Pros

  • +Full Windows runs our hospital EMR perfectly
  • +Touchscreen for quick data entry
  • +NFC for badge authentication

Cons

  • -Battery requires a mid-shift charge at busy stations
  • -Tablet mode typing is awkward without the keyboard

Our hospital evaluated multiple tablets for bedside documentation and chose the Surface Pro 10 for clinical staff because nothing else runs our EMR natively. The NFC authentication feature means staff can quickly log in with their badges. The touchscreen works well with gloves for basic navigation. Battery is the main operational challenge — at very busy stations we need to plug in during shifts. The form factor is excellent for this use case and IT appreciates the Windows compatibility with our managed software environment.
